Sherwood company

The history of the company dates back to 1968, to a small local planning and design office in the Kirov region. The office was in charge of construction projects for process engineers and consumer goods manufacturers. It also had a production unit where projects became prototypes. The office was considered a leading Russian wheel rim developer so when it became necessary to make a Greek chariot for Moscow Olympics our specialists were commissioned to prepare a part of drawings. In 1978 the PDO was given a status of planning and design office specializing in furniture and woodworking; from then on it began providing designs and projects for woodworking industry.
In late 80s – early 90s the company was developing blockhouse equipment. A set of 6 lathes for automated log finishing operations was designed. In 1993 the company decided to develop and produce lathes for small-sized timber finishing. Our design department elaborated 664C chipper edger that was incorporated into a small-sized timber finishing line along with 663C butt-end reducer. Our lines are successfully used in Vologda, Tver, Leningrad, Nizhny Novgord, Ulyanovsk, Moscow, Yaroslavl, and Smolensk regions, Khabarovsk territory, Krasnoyarsk territory, Komi Republic, Udmurtia and other regions of Russia as well as CIS and ex-USSR countries.
In June 1999 we launched mass production of 668C integrated lathe. Its design was based on existing 663C and 664C lathes but it has a number of advantages such as simplified cutter tool adjustment and better performance capability. As the result the quality of lumber produced increased and now it can be exported to other countries. A log can be cut into precise dimensional lumber of a good surface quality just in a single run. The log undergoes three processing operations: rounding, smoothing and cutting. However these lathes are not the only ones we can produce, we can also deliver custom-made machinery.
In May 2005 the company launched mass production of Sherwood OF-28C butt end reducer with improved performance capability that makes it stand out among standard butt end reducers. Its procedure of operation is as follows: the log is fixed by front and rear stocks (hydraulic fixation), as the carriage runs, the log is rounded by a rotor and grooves of desired size and shape are generated along the log by two smoothing units. The carriage with the reducer rotor and smoothing units can be adjusted for a smooth and continuous run within the range of 0 to 6 m/min right during the processing. The lathe is equipped with hydraulic lifts for log lifting and centering. This allows to reduce manual labor and increase equipment capacity. The lathe implements a unique procedure of step-by-step butt end reduction capable of maintaining high feed rates and surfacing quality. Lathe frame is made of channel No 40 for high hardness and reliable operation even if installed without a foundation.
